GEORGETOWN - Harold B. Short, 82, of Georgetown, passed away Saturday, March 17, 2012, at Harrison Senior Living, Georgetown. Harold was born in Milford, son of the late Harold B. Short and Anna Schmitt Short. He served in the Army for two years during the Korean War Conflict. Harold farmed his entire life in Gravel Hill. He served for a total of 27 years on the boards of Delaware Federal Land Bank Association, MidAtlantic Farm Credit Association, and Farm Credit Bank of Baltimore. Harold was a Master Mason in the Franklin Lodge #12 A.P. & A.M., he served on the Indian River School District Board for 10 years, and was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Harold was a true family man, a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Two Danish AFS exchange students, Svend Andersen (1971-72) and Lisbeth Jorgensen (1979-80) have been a loving part of his family life. He enjoyed traveling on vacations with his family and was well known for his sense of humor. Harold is survived by his wife of 60 years, Virginia Lee (Graves) Short; daughter, Nancy and husband Guy Phillips; son, Ben and wife Adina Short; daughter, Patti and husband Steve Chappell; nine grandchildren, five great-granddaughters; and a sister, Eleanor Loderhose. He was predeceased by a son, David James Short; a grandson, Alex Chappell; and a sister, Marion McIntyre. A memorial service will be noon, Saturday, March 24, in Wesley United Methodist Church, 102 E. Laurel Street, Georgetown, with visitation one hour before the service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Harold's memory to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE, 19963, or to Wesley United Methodist Church, 102 East Laurel Street, Georgetown, DE 19947.
