Granville Frederick Oney, 85

GEORGETOWN - Granville Frederick Oney of Georgetown died Sunday, May 20, 2007, in Bayhealth Center, Milford. He was 85.

Granville was born Jan. 5, 1922, to the late Ola Laws and Fred Oney of Laurel, where he grew up.

He met his late wife, Helena, and married her in 1949. They made their home in Georgetown, where they raised four children.

Granville served in World War II in a segregated regimen. As a young soldier, he traveled to Europe to fight for this country. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 37, Seaford.

After returning from the war, he worked on the railroad until he was employed by DuPont, Seaford, in 1950. He rose through the ranks at DuPont and was employed there for almost three decades. He retired in 1957.

Granville was a faithful member of the Masonic organization"s G. Oscar Carrington Consistory.

He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary "Ann" and Dr. Marvin Morris, Helena O. and Henry Mishoe Jr., and Sonia R. and Michael D. Robinson; a son and daughter-in-law, George F. and Vernice Oney; seven grandchildren, Brian Mishoe, Kimberly Engram (predeceased), Dara Oney, Rastafari Oney, Sekou Oney, Jonathan Mishoe and Christen Robinson; three great-grandchildren, Elijah, Kimora and Lakyra Oney; four sisters-in-law, Marie Baugh, Sarah Bethards, Sally Pratt and Edna Laws; an extended family who cared for him and called him Dad, Enos "Big Eye" and LaVonne "Von" Massey, Mary Taylor, Steve Johnson, Brittany Richardson and Sue Broughton; and a host of Oney, Taylor, West and Truitt relatives and friends.

Services will take place Saturday at the Jesus is Lord Church, 40 Ingramtown Road, Georgetown. The viewing will be at 10 a.m. and the funeral service will start at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milford. After returning from the burial site, a repast will be held in the Jesus is Lord Church fellowship hall
