HARTLY - Grace C. Jones, beloved mother and friend, passed onto the Lord after a brave and difficult battle with cancer. She died Saturday, June 30, 2007, surrounded by her loving family and devoted husband of 53 years. She was 69.

Grace was born June 30, 1938, in Baltimore, the second of four children to the late John and Pearl Hartlove of Baltimore.

Although, raised in Maryland, she and her husband moved to Delaware in 1974, where she devoted her time to family, church and many children programs.

Grace was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Dover for many years before her issues with health began to arise.

Early on she worked many years as a teacher for the Holy Cross CCD program as well as an aide for Fairview Elementary School in Dover. She then went on to start a home day care service, Small Wonders, which she ran from her home for more than 15 years.

Grace was especially loved by all that knew her because she was so wonderful with children. Children meant the world to her and she gave everything of herself to ensure that working parents, or others in need of childcare had a warm and loving environment to bring their children.

By many she was known as "Ms. Gracie," but to her six children she was and will always be "Mom."

After she retired, Grace traveled with her husband end enjoyed spending time with family.

She is survived by her husband, Gene R. Jones Sr., with whom she was married for more than 52 years. She is also survived by a sister, Helen Mitchell of Hanover, Pa.; a brother, Lester Hartlove of Linthicum, Md.; six children she loved to be with, Gene R. Jones Jr. and Faye Collins of Felton, Gary and Nance Jones of Littlestown, Pa., Gwyn and Walter Gustavson of Felton, Gregg Jones and Marty Brozena of Middletown, Glen and Jennifer Jones of Raleigh, N.C., formerly of Dover, and Grant and Cindy Jones of Dover; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer Mulligan of Waxhaw, N.C., Tim Jones and his son Cole Jones of Hanover, Shawn and Nicki Cooney of Hanover, Shannon Jones and her son Mark Jones of Lincoln, Lauren Jones of Lincoln, Jason Collins of Felton, Daniel Jones of Dover, and Sydney, Camryn and William Jones of Raleigh, formerly of Dover.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a private family service from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming.

The family requests in lieu of flowers contributions to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
