Grace Avelli, 88

SMYRNA - Grace Avelli, passed away Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, in the Milford Hospice Center, Milford. She was 88. Mrs. Avelli was born May 26, 1920 in Scranton, Pa., the daughter of the late Emil and Anna Maiese. She worked as a clerk for the Board of elections for the City of New York, N.Y. for several years before moving to Delaware. Mrs. Avelli was a member of St. Polycarps Roman Catholic Church in Smyrna. She loved to dance to the music of Frank Sinatra. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Avelli was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Avelli in 1997. She is survived by a son, Philip J. Avelli of Shirley, N.Y.; a sister, Amelia Wicks of Smyrna; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Polycarps Roman Catholic Church, 135 Ransom Lane, Smyrna. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main St., Smyrna. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna. Arrangements are by Faries Funeral Directors and Crematorium Inc., 29 South Main St., Smyrna. Letters of condolence may be sent by visiting www.fariesfuneralhome.com.
