Gerald Francis 'Gerry' Millea, 93

EASTON, Md. - Gerald Francis "Gerry" Millea of Easton, formerly of Denton, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2007, in Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, of natural causes. He was 93.

He was born Oct. 23, 1913, in Peabody, son of the late Arthur T. and Mary Theresa (Carlin) Millea.

Mr. Millea was a graduate of St. John's Preparatory School, Danvers, Mass. He was a graduate of University of Southern California where he was a member of the varsity football and water polo teams. He went on to graduate from the Harvard School of Business.

He was a World War II officer of the U.S. Army serving in the Pacific Theater.

He was a staff member of Sen. David I. Walsh of Massachusetts. He was an administrator holding a number of high-level positions in the division of research and statistics, office of the comptroller and division of supervision and regulation at the Federal Reserve Board, Washington, D.C.

He was a past member of the Washington Athletic Club, the Manor Country Club, Rockville, and the Caroline Country Club, Denton. He was also an Oblate of St. Benedict at the St. Gertrude's Monastery, Ridgely. He was a very active member of St. Benedict/St. Elizabeth Parish Community serving on the finance committee for many years, also as a lector and catechist for the youth. He researched and wrote a history of the St. Elizabeth Church to help celebrate its 150th anniversary in 1981. He was also a member of St. Peter and Paul Parish, Easton.

He enjoyed world travel, swimming, golfing and ice cream. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Arthur T. Millea and J. Franklin Millea.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Betty Nichols Millea; her son, William Collins and family of Seattle; a nephew, James F. Millea of Boston; two nieces, Susan (Millea) Gurry of Hampton, N.H. and Terry (Millea) Manion of Salisbury; several great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and extended family and friends.

Visitation will be in Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home, 106 W. Sunset Ave., Greensboro, Friday from 4-6:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in St. Benedict's Catholic Church, Ridgely.

Interment will be at a later date.
