George Thomas Evans Jr., 76

MILFORD - George Thomas Evans Jr. of Milford and Lewes passed away Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006, in Harbor Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Lewes, from Creutzfeldt-Jacob Disease. He was 76.

Mr. Evans was born March 18, 1930, in Baltimore, son of the late George Thomas and Mary Ellen Evans.

He graduated from Baltimore City College and the University of Baltimore.

Mr. Evans was a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953, serving in the Korean Conflict.

He retired from Exxon Co. after 36 years of dedicated service.

Mr. Evans was a member of St. John"s Catholic Church of Milford and St. Jude"s Catholic Church of Lewes. He served on the Board of Directors for the Baltimore Exxon Service Club Inc., Catholic Charities and Casa San Francisco.

He was a member of the American Legion, the Lewes Yacht Club, Milford and Lewes Historical Society, the Milford Museum and Kickers German Club of Baltimore.

Mr. Evans volunteered at Casa San Francisco and the Sussex County Department of Library Read Program. He also volunteered at the Lewes Yacht Club Sailing School and the Sea Explorers.

He was a former Sussex County Sheriff"s Deputy.

Mr. Evans was an avid sailor and gardener who enjoyed traveling, attending plays and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Martha Lee Evans; a son, Joseph Marshall Evans; a daughter, Mary Ann Evans; two grandchildren, Kristie Renee Evans and Ryan Jacob Evans; and three siblings, Margaret Feeley, James S. Evans and Sally Lambert.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, George Thomas Evans III; a sister, Beatrice Evans; and a brother, Charles F. Evans.

Services were in Evans Funeral Chapel & Cremation Services, 8800 Harford Road, Parkville, Md.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. today in St. John"s Catholic Church, Seabury Avenue and School Place, Milford, where friends may call one hour earlier.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Creutzfeldt-Jacob Disease Foundation Inc., P.O. Box 5312, Akron, OH 44334.
