George R. 'Richard' Ellis, 71
CAMDEN - George R. "Richard" Ellis of Camden died Monday, Oct. 23, 2006, in Christiana Care-Christiana Hospital, Newark. He was 71.
Mr. Ellis was born Feb. 28, 1935, in Dover, son of the late William H. and Maude (Lowe) Ellis.
He graduated from Dover High School in 1953, and attended Wesley College.
Mr. Ellis served for two years in the U.S. Army.
He retired in 1992 after 25 years at ILC in Frederica, notably during the Apollo Space Program. After retiring, he opened Ellis Furniture Works in Dover, which he operated until he retired again in 2004.
He enjoyed working with wood, sailing and being with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Mr. Ellis was a grateful member of Alcoholics Anonymous for the last four years.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Barbara (Tebbens) Ellis; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Mark and Kristen Ellis of Charlotte, N.C., and Scott and Paige Ellis of Alexandria, Va.; a sister, Anne Carr of Dover; three grandchildren, Maddie Ellis, Jackson Ellis and Carter Ellis; his mother-in-law, Madeline (Davis) Tebbens of Milford; and numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Delaware Aerospace Education Foundation, 5 Essex Drive, Bear, DE 19701.
