George Lonnie Cox, 62
ELLENDALE - George Lonnie Cox, of Ellendale, formerly of New Castle, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2008, at home. He was 62.
Mr. Cox was born in Wilmington, the son of the late Oather Edward and Gladys (Ramsey) Swanson, and stepson of the late Wesley L. Swanson.
He was a self-employed contractor, working in the New Castle and Wilmington areas for many years.
Mr. Cox specialized in siding, window, roof and deck work, getting most of his work by word of mouth and fine workmanship.
In his younger years, he enjoyed playing horseshoes.
Mr. Cox also liked playing pool, swimming, fishing and bowling.
He especially enjoyed playing cards, particularly blackjack, with his granddaughters, and a good game of Pinochle.
Mr. Cox loved to teach people as well as tease them.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Linda Cox; two sons, Lonnie Cox Jr. of Ellendale and Howard W. Cox and his wife Laura of Dover; a daughter, Glenna Cox-Hidalgo and her husband Rodel of Wilmington; two brothers, Carl H. Cox and his wife Sandra E. of New Castle and Leon Swanson and his wife Cynthia of Avondale, Pa.; a sister, Marie Swanson of Long Neck; three granddaughters, Makailea Hidalgo, Isabelle Hidalgo and Cameron Cox; one grandson, Garrett Cox; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
