George L. Sullivan, 90

HARRINGTON - George L. Sullivan, of Harrington, died Monday, April 7, 2008, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. He was 90.

Mr. Sullivan was born in Harrington, son of the late Lawrence E. and Elsie (Issetts) Sullivan.

He went to school at the Prospect Church until he was needed to work the family farm. He was a farmer for many years.

Mr. Sullivan also worked as a bartender at Stones in Harrington, Swains and also at Teddy's Tavern in Ellendale. Mr. Sullivan also worked at Uptown Liquors in Milford.

He was a founding member of the Eastern Shore Fox Hunters Association, a member of the Harrington Senior Center and a former member of the Harrington Moose Lodge.

He attended Prospect United Methodist Church.

Mr. Sullivan enjoyed raising and caring for his hound dogs and especially loved to run his hounds around the farm.

He also enjoyed riding around town in his little white truck and talking with people. He never met a stranger.

Mr. Sullivan was a very unique and loving man and a very good person.

He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alice D. Sullivan, in 1993; and a foster brother, Glenn Rhodes, in 1964.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Jackie Sullivan of Harrington; a stepdaughter, Betty Jane Melvin of Harrington; six grandchildren, Valerie O'Bryan and her husband Robert of Harrington, Patrick Sullivan and his wife Linda of Harrington, William Taylor and his wife Marlene of Greenwood, Bonnie Brown and her husband Howard of Harrington, Bobby Matthews and his wife Tonya of Williamstown, N.J., and Cindy Coverdale and her husband Mike of Harrington; 12 great-grandchildren, Jeffery Sullivan, Jessica Sullivan, Michael Taylor, Shelly Taylor, Stephanie McGuire and her husband Eddie, Kelly Dee and her husband Russ, April Matthews, Shawn Matthews, Heather Gallagher and her husband Scott, Tami Ostberg, Brett Coverdale and Ben Coverdale; eight great-great grandchildren, Chelsea Taylor, Bridget Taylor, Shea Taylor, Hunter McGuire, Kylie McGuire, Makenzie Dee, Jake Dee and Madison Gallagher; and his former first wife and friend, Sarah Hobbs, of Milford.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday in the McKnatt, Carpenter & Baker Funeral Home, 50 Commerce St., Harrington, where friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Milford-Harrington Highway, Harrington.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to either Eastern Shore Fox Hunters Association, c/o Tom Ireland, President, 1319 Gallo Road, Harrington, DE 19952; or to Prospect United Methodist Church, 5183 Vernon Road, Harrington, DE 19952.
