George Herbert Scholz, 87

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - George Herbert Scholz, of Nashville, a retired Delaware State Trooper, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008. He was 87.

During his career, he served in the Illinois National Guard, 129th Infantry Company, 33rd Division, out of Aurora, Ill. In 1939, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and served six years.

Upon discharge he moved to Millsboro, Del., and enlisted in the Delaware National Guard, where he served five years in the 945th, the Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion.

In 1951, he joined the Delaware State Police where he served 20 years, retiring in 1971.

He was born Sept. 11, 1921, in Madison, Wis., and was preceded in death by his beautiful wife of 63 years, Elsie, and his parents, George Henry and Augusta Scholz.

He is survived by a brother, Richard Scholz of New Port Richey, Fla.; a daughter, Karen Comstock of Felton, Del.; a granddaughter, Lori VanPelt of Bridgeville, Del.; a grandson, Larry Morgan of Salisbury, Md.; and a great-grandson, Andrew Smith of Georgetown, Del.

Friends may call on the family at the West Harpeth Funeral Home, Nashville, on Monday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m..

Interment will be in the Middle Tennessee Veterans' Cemetery, near Nashville, at 1 p.m. Monday.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Delaware State Police Museum, 1425 N. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
