George E. Sahlin, 76 FELTON - George E. Sahlin, passed away in his home Friday, December 18, 2009. He was 76. He was born August 5, 1933 in Somerville, Mass., to George and Julia Ring Sahlin. He was a member of the U.S. Army Airborne, 82nd Division, in 1951-1952. In 1952, he married his wife, Joan. They raised five children in Camden and Piscataway, N.J. George was in Law Enforcement in New Jersey for 30 years, where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant in Camden, Captain in Hudson County Prosecutor's Office in Jersey City, and Special Agent in the State Commission of Investigation in Trenton, retiring in 1989. During his retirement, he volunteered his services to the Sheriff's Department of Jefferson County, in Tennessee, where he spent 13 years before moving to Felton in 2003. George was preceded in death by his parents; and two granddaughters, Amanda and Kelly Ann. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joan; his children, Michael and wife Valerie, Stephen, Brenda, Thomas and wife, Bernadette, and William and wife, Susan; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; and his sister, Mary of Massachusetts. Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at Berry-Short Funeral Home, Main Street, Felton, where friends may call between 1 and 3 p.m. Interment will be private. No flowers please. Donations may be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963, whose staff took such good care of him in his last year of life.
