George E. Green Sr., 57

NEW CASTLE - George E. Green Sr., of New Castle, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 18, 2008, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, with his loving family and devoted friends at his side. He was 57.

George was born in Wilmington, son of Betty Johnston and the late George H. Green.

He was raised in the Newport and New Castle area, making New Castle his home for the past 37 years.

George was a quality control inspector for General Motors Boxwood Road Assembly Plant for 30 years, retiring in 1999.

He started his second career, from 2000 to the present, at Frank Robino Co. in Sussex County as a superintendent. George was proud to work for the Robino Co. and he loved his second career.

He enjoyed NASCAR and the beach.

He truly loved his "castle at the beach" and riding around on his golf cart with his wife Mary Ellen, but most of all George's heart belonged to his family.

George was very proud to be "Pop-Pop Green."

He will be dearly missed by his loving wife and constant companion of 38 years, Mary Ellen; his son, George E. Green Jr. and his wife Nicole of New Castle; his daughter, Julie Ann Green of Townsend; his mother, Betty Johnston of Dover; his siblings, Beverly Collier of New Castle, Earl Green and his wife Susan of Wilmington, Patti Sudler of Dover, John Green and his wife Joyce of Milford and Betsy Herbert and her husband Colin of Hatboro, Pa.; most especially his two loving grandsons, Mason Green and Michael Green; and his very special aunt, Mildred Cole of New Castle, who was a constant influence in his life. George was also very close to Mary Ellen's family, mother-in-law, Rose Marie Becker; sister-in-law, Barbara Graham and her husband Bobby; brothers-in-law, Leonard Becker and his wife Jamie and Joseph Becker and his wife Marie - in fact, the Green and Becker families are one big loving family; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members all will cherish fond memories of George.

The family would like to especially thank the staff at Beebe Medical Center for all their help and support during this time.

Family and friends are invited to attend George's life celebration viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Beeson Funeral Home of Newark, 2053 Pulaski Highway, Fox Run, and again from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday.

His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with interment in All Saints Cemetery.

Instead of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be payable to Bayard f/b/o Pop Pop Green's Grandchildren and mailed to Bayard, P.O. Box 5130, Wilmington, DE 19899.
