GEORGETOWN - George E. Booth Jr., of Georgetown, passed away on Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, at Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. He was 64. At the age of 17, he joined the Navy and served two tours in Vietnam. He worked in Louisiana on "Lay Barge," laying pipe and working on shrimp boats and loved it until he crushed his elbow. He was a heavy equipment operator and achieved almost 17 years recovery. His "hand tooled" leather craft items were sought after. He reinforced and strengthened his Spirituality through the Chief Sea Gull's Sun Dance. He danced, prayed and sacrificed for four days while depriving himself of normal food and water. As a Sundancer he reached out to the Creator to ask for pity and healing for others, never himself. Through prayer and fasting and purification during daily sweat lodge ceremonies the dancers strive to become conduits between the Creator and his creation. George prayed and participated in several Lodge ceremonies throughout the year. He was a sacred "Pipe Carrier" and designated as an "Elder". His ceremonial name was "Strong Bow." He left us at sunrise, following the sun. He was a quiet strong man with a wonderful sense of humor. He loved all animals and birds particularly, cats, buzzards and bats. He leaves behind his Aunts, Violet Weed and Isabelle Cheney; his beloved, Carolyn Doolittle; and his two closest friends, Gilbert Watts and Charles Clark IV. A private ceremony will be at a later date. No flowers, please. Arrangements handled by Short Funeral Services, Georgetown.
