WORTON, Md. - George Austin Hurtt Jr., of Worton, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, at Easton Memorial Hospital in Easton, Md. He was 75. George A. Hurtt was born Aug. 2, 1936, in Stevensville, Md., the son of the late George Alfred Hurtt and Rosie Elizabeth Luff. Mr. Hurtt was a Cecil County resident for several years before moving to Kent County in the late 1940's. Mr. Hurtt worked for the State Highway Administration as an equipment operator and retired in 1999 after 40 years of service. After retirement from the State Highway he went to work part time with the Kent County Landfill were he made many friends. He was a member of Fairlee United Methodist Church. Mr. Hurtt had his own repair and bike shop at his residence and kept it going after he retired. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, crabbing, camping and playing baseball in his younger years. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Edith Frances Hurtt of Worton, Md.; one daughter, LuLu Anna Hurtt of Worton, Md.; one sister, Pauline Boone of Dover, Del.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister. Services will be held Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011, at 2 p.m., at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 370 Cypress St., Millington, Md. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will follow the service at Still Pond Cemetery in Still Pond, Md. Refreshments will be served after interment at the Still Pond U.M. Church.
