CLAYTON - Geoffrey Alan Spence, of Clayton, died Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, surrounded by his family at Bayhealth Medical Center in Dover. He was 34. Geoffrey was born Dec. 3, 1974, in Wilmington, the son of Donald Gene Spence and Shelva Jean Spence of Lindside, W.Va. Geoffrey was a certified welder who worked for Detention Equipment Specialists of Landsdale, Pa. He graduated from Smyrna High School class of 1992. Geoffrey liked to ride dirt bikes and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a very devoted father whose life revolved entirely around his kids. Geoffrey was known help others. He was a Gift of Life Donor. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, whom he loved so much. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Jennifer L. Brand, and their two sons, Geoffrey Alan, Jr. and Jeremy Douglas; their soon to be third son on the way, Jonathan Dwight Spence who has an expected delivery date of Sept. 23, 2009; a brother, Donald Gene Spence, II and his wife Michele of Townsend; a mother-in-law, Veronica A. Brand of Smyrna; a brother-in-law, Paul E. Brand, III also of Smyrna; three nephews; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins. A viewing will be from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 9, in the Faries Funeral Chapel located on 29 S. Main Street, Smyrna. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 10, in the funeral home. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna. In lieu of flowers, a Trust Fund has been established for Geoffrey's children. Contributions may be sent by visiting any Wilmington Trust Branch and asking a teller about donations to the trust fund. Letters of condolence may be sent by visiting www.fariesfuneralhome.com.
