Garrett Thomas Flynn, 90
DOVER, Del. - Garrett Thomas Flynn passed away peacefully on March 17, 2022, fittingly on St. Patrick's Day.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta; and his parents, Garrett and Irene Flynn.
He is survived by his children, James Flynn and Garrett Flynn (Nancy); his grandchildren, Zachary Flynn (Lyndsay), Rachel Flynn; his sisters, Maryellen Golobek and Eileen Maleski (Charles); his longtime friend, Lore O'Ferrall; and a number of nieces, nephews, and stepchildren.
Following his army service, which he proudly began at age 17, he returned to his beloved hometown of Wilkes-Barre, Pa. He earned a BS degree in accounting from King's College. Garrett then moved with his young family to Dover, Delaware and spent his career as a senior accounting manager at Playtex. He was very proud of his Slovak and Irish heritage. Garrett was a member of The American Legion and even maintained membership in the North End Slovak Citizens Club in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. He enjoyed sharing many stories of his army time stationed in Germany. After retirement, he enjoyed spending many winters in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, where he especially enjoyed watching baseball spring training. One of his greatest joys was time spent eating crabs and telling stories with his children and grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to American Veterans.
A Celebration of Life memorial (to be announced) will be held in his honor in the upcoming months.
Letters of condolence may be sent, and guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com
