CLAYTON - Frederick F. Harris Jr., of Clayton, passed away at home Friday, Jan. 11, 2008. He was 83.

Mr. Harris was born Jan. 14, 1924, in Philadelphia, the son of the late Frederick F. and Sylvia Shultis Harris.

Mr. Harris worked as a purchasing manager for Playtex in Dover, for 29 years before retiring in 1986.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion David C. Harrison Post 14 in Smyrna.

He was also a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Harmony Lodge 13 AF&AM and a life member and past president of Citizens Hose Co. 1, all in Smyrna.

He is survived by his wife, Dixie Chapman Harris; a daughter, Pamela Foster of Virginia Beach, Va. and her husband, Donald; a son, Frederick F. Harris III of Cabot, Ark. and his wife, Amanda; a sister, Sylvia Vaughn of Clayton; a granddaughter, Sally Foster of Virginia Beach; and two grandsons, Craig Harris in the U.S. Coast Guard and Scott Harris of Cabot.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Delaware Hospice for their loving care.

Services will be noon Tuesday in the Asbury United Methodist Church, 22-24 W. Mt. Vernon St., Smyrna, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be private.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19904; or to Asbury United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 330, Smyrna, DE 19977.

Arrangements are by Faries Funeral Directors, Inc., 29 S. Main St., Smyrna.
