Francis Xavier Young

MAGNOLIA - Francis (Frank) Xavier Young, Sr. passed away Nov. 6, 2016. Frank was born March 24, 1934 in Philadelphia, Pa., the son of the late William J. and Mary Ann Young, of Ireland. Frank retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1974. His military career took him to Sampson AFB, N.Y., Keesler AFB, Miss., Kunan AB, Korea, Tyndall AFB, Fla., DaNang AB, Vietnam, Maron AB, Spain, Zwiebrucken AB, Germany, and finally to Dover AFB. Frank then worked for the Social Security Administration, retiring again in 1996. Frank was a life member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, a life member of the Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company, and a member of the American Legion. Frank is survived by his wife of over 63 years, Catherine G. Young, of Magnolia; six sons, Francis X. Young, Jr., of Newark, Peter W. Young, of Alton, Ill., Teddy D. Young, of EL Paso, Texas, Liam R. Young, of Magnolia, Thomas D. Young, of Dover, and Lawrence P. Young, of Magnolia; one sister, Mary Walls of Glenolden, Pa. Frank really enjoyed taking trips and traveling with his wife, he was always ready to go on a run. Frank especially enjoyed his yearly reunions with the Sampson AFB, NY Fellowship group. Frank was an avid collector of baseball cards. Frank was particularly fond of collecting Babe Ruth memorabilia; he was a frequent visitor and charter member of the Babe Ruth Museum in Baltimore, Md. Funeral mass will be held Friday, Nov. 11, 2016, at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Dover. Private interment with Military Honors at Delaware Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Bear.
