Francis E. 'Hump' Holleger, 77

FELTON - Francis E. "Hump" Holleger, of Waterside, Felton, died Monday, Oct. 26, 2009 at Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital in Milford. He was 77. Mr. Holleger was born on Nov. 10, 1931. in Milford, son of the late Earl and Rae (Maguigan) Holleger. A graduate of Milford High School in 1949, he served his country during the Korean War achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant in the Air Force. After a long career with Dentsply Caulk in Milford as a production and quality control supervisor, Mr. Holleger was a realtor associate with the Marvel Agency in Milford. Better known as "Hump", a nickname bestowed upon him by his High School football coach Barney Briggs, he enjoyed playing bridge, playing golf, traveling and his association with DFRC and Lions International. Hump officiated at the first Delaware All Star Football game in 1956. He soon became associated with DFRC (the Delaware Foundation Reaching Citizens with intellectual disabilities) the Foundation sponsoring the annual Blue-Gold game. He served on the Foundations Beneficiaries Committee, was Chairman of the game in 1976 and served as President of the Trustees in 1986-87. He was a member and past president of the Milford Lions Club and a past District Governor of the Lions Clubs of Delaware where he served in 1982-83. Hump was a Melvin Jones Fellow and a life member of Lions International. Hump was a founding member of the Shawnee Country Club in Milford and served as the sixth president of the Club. He was also a member of Club deBonMont at Plantation Bay in Ormond Beach, Florida where he enjoyed the game of golf and will be remembered by his many friends in that community. He was also a member of the Disabled Veterans of America, the American Legion, the Milford Senior Center and a long time member of the Avenue United Methodist Church in Milford. In addition to his parents, Mr. Holleger was preceded in death by his son, Steven A. Holleger; and two sisters, Ruth A. Lane and Rita Jane Holleger. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helen Macklin Holleger; a nephew, Rick Lane and Rick's sons Alan and Jordan Lane. Friends called Friday, Oct. 30, at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford. A memorial service was held Saturday at Avenue United Methodist Church, 20 N. Church Street, Milford. Interment was held privately. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to the Milford Lions Club, P.O.
