Florence Kohout, 79
HARTLY - Florence Kohout, of Hartly, died Friday, March 7, 2008, at Johns Hopkins Bay View Medical Center in Maryland. She was 79.
Mrs. Kohout was born June 28, 1928 in Smyrna, to the late Dawson Shahan and Myrtle McNatt Shahan.
Mrs. Kohout helped her husband with the family farm and for 50 years they owned and operated an animal removal service in Hartly.
She enjoyed dancing, getting her hair done, flowers, going out to dinner or fixing dinner for her family. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family.
Mrs. Kohout was very generous, kind-hearted, always had a smile on her face, with a very pleasant, pleasing, loving, positive outlook. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Frank Kohout in March 2006; her adopted son Carlton Kohout; and her brother Dawson "Doc" Shahan.
Mrs. Kohout is survived by her son John Kohout and his wife Rebecca of Hartly; her daughter Carolyn Downes and her husband Steve of Hartly; her siblings, Beulah Boyles of Kenton, Shirley Jarman and her husband Frank of Dover, Norwood "Teetie" Shahan and his wife Evelyn of Greenwood, Donald Shahan and his wife Jane of Kenton, Joan Woodall and her husband Norman of Greenwood and Gene Shahan and his wife Melissa of Kenton; six grandchildren, Stacy Sylvester and her husband Troy of Hartly, Jason Kohout and his wife Erica of Dover, Shawn Downes and his special friend Rachael Epps and her son Carson of Woodside, Shane Downes of Hartly, Steven and Janet Kohout both of Dover; and three great-granddaughters, Ashlyn, Sierra and Riley.
Funeral services will be held noon, Tuesday at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Del. 10), Dover. Friends may call Monday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions be made to Hartly Ambulance, PO Box 28, Hartly, DE 19953 or Camden/Wyoming Moose Lodge, 760 Moose Lodge Road, Camden, DE 19934.
