Florence F. Palermo, 85

DOVER - Florence F. Palermo of Dover died Monday, March 12, 2007, in Capital Health Care Center, Dover. She was 85.

Born in Hazelton, Pa., Florence was the daughter of the late Joseph H. and Thomasina Famalette.

She graduated from the Hazelton State Hospital School of Nursing and moved to Dover in 1955.

Florence served at the General Foods Corp. as an industrial nurse until her retirement in 1978.

Prior to moving to Capital Health Care, she resided at Luther Towers, where she was an active participant in numerous programs.

Throughout the years, Florence was an active member with R.S.V.P. and the Dover Modern Maturity Center. She was also a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church since 1955.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph D. Palermo; four brothers; and a sister.

She is survived by three children, JoAnn Palermo of Claymont, Thomas J. Palermo of Sommers Point, N.J., and Mary Beth and her husband Roger Gzym of Dover; a sister, Rose Cheslock of Hazelton, and family; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Brandon Palermo and his wife Karen Lin and Adam and Tina Palermo, all of Philadelphia; Holly Palermo of Sommers Point, Shawn and Jessica Ramsey of Landenburg, Pa., Roger Jr. and Rebecca Gzym of Dover, Heather Nottingham and Tim Shearer of Chapel Hill, N.C., and William and Christina Nottingham of Newark; seven great-grandchildren.

Friends may call beginning at noon Thursday in the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State St., Dover.

Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Holy Cross Catholic Church, Dover.

Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery, Hazelton.

The family suggests donations in her memory to Holy Cross Church, 631 S. State St., Dover, DE 19901; or the American Alzheimer"s Association, 2306 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805.
