Florence E. "Flo" Wheatley, 75

BEAR - Florence E. "Flo" Wheatley of Bear went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, in Christiana Care-Christiana Hospital, Newark, while recovering from surgery she had in March. She was 75.

Born in St. Georges on May 9, 1932, she was one of five children to the late Henry C. and Mary (Reese) Evans.

Flo, as she was affectionately known by many, grew up in St. Georges and later moved to Bear, where she raised her family for the past 51 years.

She will always be remembered as a dedicated working mom by her family.

As a young teenager, Mrs. Wheatley worked on a farm.

From this experience she developed a strong work ethic which she carried with her throughout her life.

During the Korean War era, Mrs. Wheatley worked in a plant where she packed parachutes for the war efforts.

In the 1970s and 1980s, she worked in management for the Cohen family, who owned several Mr. Pizza franchises throughout New Castle County.

During her later years, Mrs. Wheatley worked at the DMI Co. as a microfilm records processor.

Each of her occupational journeys opened a door to meeting many dear friends throughout her life.

In her earlier years, Mrs. Wheatley was a member of the Women"s Auxiliary for Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 3 Caesar Rodney Division.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Norman C. Wheatley; two sons, Norman Lee and Kenneth Wheatley; one sister, Elsie Lowell of Dallas; and one grandson and a granddaughter.

The Wheatley family would like to express their loving gratitude to the many dear friends and work associates who added more purpose to Flo"s life beyond that of her family. Additional gratitude is expressed to the neighbors and relatives who have been a blessing of support during these difficult times.

Services and interment will be private.

In memory of Mrs. Wheatley, memorial contributions can be made to a church or charity of choice in her honor.

Arrangements by Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, Middletown, DE.
