Elson Lee "Rock" Johnson, 66

MILLSBORO - Elson Lee "Rock" Johnson of Millsboro peacefully departed from this world to be a better home on Wednesday, May 16, 2007, in Christiana Care-Christiana Hospital in Newark surrounded by his wife and friends. He was 66.

Elson was born in Lewes on Jan. 7, 1941, son of the late Marcella and Harley Johnson.

He received all of his education at Johnson and Jason schools. Elson loved his tools; as we all know, Elson would buy tools and have the same ones in one of his many buildings in his yard or in his van. He was the only one who could ride in that van because he had so many of his tools in there, no one else could ride with him.

After his education, he became employed with James Julian Construction Inc. and after retiring, he continued to work as a handyman.

When he was asked to do some carpentry he would always be right there. Now it may have taken some extra time to get it done but you could always count on things being done accurately. Whenever Elson was in need, his wife, Barbara was right there.

Elson was associated with Harmony United Methodist Church and St. John"s Baptist Church. He was very devoted to helping both churches with his carpentry skills.

As we all know, he loved to build, build and build.

Elson loved children. He always loved buying someone else"s child a gift. He truly loved his godchild, Eurecka Briddell.

On Sunday while at Christiana Hospital, all he wanted was to be "saved," as he did accept Christ in his heart as his personal savior.

He was preceded in death by his brother, George Edsel and his sister, Barbara Johnson.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Barbara, whom he married on June 17, 1967; three sisters, Rochella Nock and Vivian Johnson, both of Millsboro and Blonnie McCall of Lewes; two brothers, Crawford Johnson and Harlin and his wife, Jean Johnson of Georgetown; five brothers-in-law, Raymond Moore of Millsboro, Freddie Roberts and Oather Roberts Jr. and his wife, Harriett of Delmar, Del, Charles Wise and his wife, Emma of Salisbury, Md. and Timothy Wise of Pennsylvania; four sister-in-laws, Beatrice Johnson of Millsboro, Evelyn Handy and her husband, Robert of Delmar, Del., Aleen Monroe of Pa., Martha Peters of Salisbury, Md.; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and many, many friends.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in St. John"s 2nd Baptist Church, Mt. Joy near Millsboro, where friends may call one hour prior. Pastor Annie Jane Custis will officiate.

Interment will be in the Church Cemetery.

Arrangements by Watson Funeral Homes.
