Elizabeth Anne 'Betsy' (Ask) Smith, 54

GEORGETOWN - Elizabeth Anne "Betsy" (Ask) Smith of Georgetown died Friday, Oct. 27, 2006, in her home. She was 54.

Ms. Smith was born in Wilmington, daughter of the late Gilbert and Dorothy (Whidden) Ask.

She was employed as a legal secretary in the law offices of Wilson, Halbrook & Bayard in Georgetown, for 34 years up until her illness.

She was an avid reader and gardener, and was a collector of antiques. She was devoted to her dog, Max.

Ms. Smith was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Georgetown, where she participated in Bible study groups, altar guild, hand bell choir and sang in the church choir. She also was very active in her community, where she was a member of the Georgetown Historical Society and had served as the secretary of the organization for many years.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer (Smith) Skowronski of Mount Royal, N.J.; and a brother, Oliver Henry of Boulder, Colo.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday in Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Dodd-Carey Chapel, 307 N. Bedford St., Georgetown.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday in the Wesley United Methodist Church, 10 E. Laurel St., Georgetown. The Rev. Anne Pruett-Barnett will officiate.

Burial will be in St. Paul's Episcopal Cemetery, Georgetown.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Wesley United Methodist Church, 10 E. Laurel St., Georgetown, DE 19947.
