BRIDGEVILLE - Elijah Drummond Jr.'s assignment ended on earth Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007, in the Genesis Elder Care Center, Seaford. He was 68 and from Bridgeville.
Elijah fought a courageous battle with unwavering faith as he followed the course set before him and finished his race with dignity.
He was born in Accomac, Va., to the late Elijah Drummond Sr. and Mary Olivia Dennis.
His formal education was received in the public schools of Virginia and Delaware.
For several years, he was employed with Seaford Moving and Storage Co. before leaving for disability.
In his spare time, Elijah enjoyed going to auctions, mechanical work and seeing that the needs of his family were taken care of.
He and his siblings grew up in Virginia until relocating to Delaware.
Elijah received the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior over 40 years ago at the First Church of Deliverance under the leadership of the late Rev. Hilton and Hattie Mae Palmer.
He was an ordained deacon and also served faithfully in many other capacities of the ministries.
On Oct. 26, 1959, Elijah married the love of his life, Irene Rosalie Johnson of Seaford. They shared a marriage of love and devotion for 48 years.
In addition to his parents, Elijah was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Johnson and Bertie Lee Savage.
In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish his memories four sons, Curtis Drummond of Laurel, Pastor Elijah Drummond and his wife Michelle of Seaford, Michael Drummond and his wife Carmen of Lincoln and Clifford Drummond and his wife Pastor Sheila of Greenwood; seven daughters, Loretta Fields and her husband Henry, Cynthia Bagwell and her husband Keith and Lisa Batson and her husband Maurice, all of Bridgeville, Debra Snead of Harrington, Joyce Winder and Denise Thompson, both of Seaford, and Margaret Queen of Dover; 31 grandchildren; a brother, Leroy Drummond and his wife Mary Ann; three sisters, Lillie Mae Kellam, Margaret Conquest and Sarah Johnson and her husband Thurman; as well as a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Elijah's time of suffering is over, he's gone to be with the Lord. God saw the roads were getting rough, the hills were hard to climb, and he calmly whispered to him, "my child, peace be thine."
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the Greater Faith Temple Church of God in Christ, Coverdale's Crossroads, Bridgeville, where Lorrie A. Jones will officiate and Pastor Randolph Jones will be the eulogist.
Friends may call two hours prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be in the Middleford Cemetery.
Arrangements by Deborah E. Harris-Nock Funeral Services, Greenwood.
