DOVER - Edwin Lee Sapp of Dover died Monday, Dec. 31, 2007, at his home. He was 74.
Ed was born in Smyrna on Dec. 9, 1933, the only child of M. Louise Masten Sapp and the late Herbert C. Sapp.
He spent two years with the U.S. Army.
After basic training at Fort Dix, N.J., he was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas.
While on training exercise in Louisiana, he met and married his wife in 1957.
Ed spent all 12 years of school in Dover and graduated in 1951.
While still in Dover High School, he joined the Robbins Hose Volunteer Fire Co., now Dover Fire Co., and later became a life member. Ed had been a member since 1961.
He started working as a young teenage with the Acme grocery store when it was on Loockerman Street. From there he went on to Holden and Munday Car dealers as a mechanic for 14 years. Ed also spent 14 years with Standard Electronics until they went out of business. He later work for the city of Dover from 1978-1996.
When not working his regular job he was hustling other work to do. That is why Ed was known all over as "The Hustler."
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former L. Inez Gray Sapp of Dover; three sons, Russell Sapp of Dover, David Sapp of Dover and Jason Sapp of San Diego; his mother, Louise Masten Sapp of Dover; three grandchildren, Angela Sapp, Danielle Young and Angel Sapp, all of Dover; a great-granddaughter, Madison Carroll of Dover; and a daughter-in-law, Stephanie Sapp of Dover.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today in the Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover, where friends may call one hour prior.
Full firemen honors will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Dover Fire Co., 103 S. Governors Ave., Dover.
Burial will take place at Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Sharon Hill Road, Dover.
