Edward McCloskey

FELTON - Edward McCloskey, of Felton, died peacefully in his sleep at his home on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010. He was 96. Mr. McCloskey was born June 8, 1914, in Idaho, to the late Jerry and Ursula McCloskey. Mr. McCloskey was a long time farmer and loved planting and taking care of his large garden which he did until the age of 89. He was especially well known for his pole beans. He also worked for Bill Parker doing farm work, O.A. Newton in the feed mill, and was an assembly-line worker for General Motors for 26 years. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. In his later years, he was a member of the Modern Maturity Adult Day Center and looked forward to going there each day. He was preceded in death by a sister, Alice McCloskey of Dover. He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, John and Linda McCloskey, Richard and Wanda McCloskey, Ronald and Patty McCloskey, and Robert and Pat McCloskey; daughter and son-in-law, Josephine and Sam Gillespie; sisters, Helen Mendoza of California, and Pauline McCloskey of Dover; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Services will be 1 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010, in Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy., Harrington, where a visitation will be held one hour prior. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dover. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Modern Maturity Center, 1121 Forrest Avenue, Dover, DE 19904. Please note that your donation is made in memory of Edward McCloskey so it will be used toward the new adult day care center building fund.
