Edward Lincoln Heller

Edward Lincoln Heller, 95

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Edward Lincoln Heller of Chestertown died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, at Chester River Hospital, Chestertown. He was 95.

Born on Feb. 12, 1912, in Newark, N.J., he was the son of the late Ira S. and Mary (Coyle) Heller.

Mr. Heller graduated from Lehigh University in 1934 and Harvard Business School in 1939.

He served in the Quartermaster Corps of the U.S. Army during World War II, achieving the rank of lieutenant colonel.

After World War II he went to work for the Joint Committee on Atomic Energy of the U.S. Congress.

Subsequent to his government service, Mr. Heller worked for General Atomic and Gulf Oil Corporation, primarily in the nuclear energy field.

In 1978 he was nominated Assistant Inspector General for the U.S. Department of Energy.

He retired in 1982 and began working at the Smithsonian as a fellow.

Mr. Heller was a lifelong boating enthusiast, and he taught navigation courses for the U.S. Power Squadrons.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Heller, on July 28, 2003.

He is survived by two sons, Peter D. Heller and his wife Helen of Chestertown, and Gregory E. Heller and his wife Anne of Leawood, Kan.; six grandchildren; a goddaughter; and a sister, Philomena Fleck, O.S.B.

Services will be noon Friday, Nov. 9, in Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn, N.Y.

Instead of flowers, contributions may be made to Chester River Home Care and Hospice, 100 Brown St., Chestertown, MD 21620.
