HOUSTON, Del. - Edward L. Hendel, D.D.S., of Houston, passed away Mon., Nov. 29, 2010. He was 74. Ed was born on Sept. 16, 1936, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, son of the late Albert and Beulah (Toney) Hendel. He graduated from Hamilton College in upstate New York after which he pursued his degree in dentistry from the University of Pittsburgh, Dental School. After Dental School he completed his internship at Wilmington General Hospital and The Childrens Beach House in Lewes. Dr. Hendel owned a Milford Dental practice for 47 years, retiring in 2009. In his leisure time he enjoyed gardening and landscaping his yard. He also had a passion for flying, skiing, sailing and spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, Dr. Hendel was preceded in death by his brother, Robert I. Hendel; and his daughter, Carolyn in June 2010. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Christine M. Hendel; a son, Gregory J. Hendel of Belgrade, Mont; a daughter, Jennifer E. Hendel of Littleton, Colo; and a sister, Janice Walker of Telluride, Colo. A memorial service will be held for Ed and Carolyn at 11 a.m. on Sat., Jan. 8, 2011, at Christ Episcopal Church, 200 N. Church St, Milford. Burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to the Milford Public Library, 11 SE Front St, Milford, DE, 19963 or Christ Episcopal Church, PO Box 191, Milford, DE, 19963.
