Edward G. Long, 72
FELTON - Edward G. Long, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2009, in Bayhealth/Milford Memorial Hospital. He was 72. He was born on Nov. 26, 1936 to the late Elwood and Myrtle (Warren) Long. Edward was a member of the Delaware Standardbred Owners Association, and a member of the United States Trotting Association. He was a former member of Virginia Harness Horsemans Association. He also was the former leader of Silks and Silky's 4-H Club, and a long time member and employee of Cloverleaf S.O.A. He trained and drove standardbred horses since the 1950's. He won the first pari-mutuel race at Georgetown Raceway in Georgetown. He loved to race at the Shenandoah County Fair in Woodstock, Va. He enjoyed going to the farms watching the horses train on the track. He loved the horses, they were his life's enjoyment. His favorite horses were trotters, but one of his favorite horses was a pacer named Leroys Reward. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lee; and his son, Keith. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Wanda Long; three sons, Donald Long and his wife Rhonda of Felton, Gene Long and his wife Gwen of Harrington, and Wayne Long of Felton; a daughter, Debbie Long of Harrington; two sisters, Doris Botsch and her husband Robert of Smyrna, and Audrey Corbin and her husband Jim of Pocomoke, Md.; sisters-in-law, Doris Long of Seaford, Linda Favre of Wyoming, and Suzanne Collison of Houston; a niece, LeAnne Chaffinch; nephews, Gary and Roger Botsch of Smyrna, and Jay and David Clendaniel; eight grandchildren, Amanda, Katie, Chris, Wayne, Wyatt, Matthew, Morgan and Erin; a special neighbor, Kelly Leyanna of Felton; and a special "grandson", Andrew Mills of Felton. Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may call two hours earlier. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.
