MILFORD - Edward F. Plucenik Jr. of Milford died Monday, March 19, 2007, at home. He was 78.

Mr. Plucenik was born on July 17, 1928, in Bloomfield, N.J., son of the late Edward F. and Edna J. (Mianecki) Plucenik.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving his country during the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Plucenik was employed as a purchasing manager with General Foods for 30 years, working primarily in their White Plains, N.Y., location and lastly in their Dover facility for several years from where he retired in 1984. He was the first person in the history of the company to be honored with the distinguished Chairman"s Award after retirement.

He cherished winters spent for many years in Marco Island, Fla. and was a master gardener, an avid fisherman and also enjoyed golf, bowling, duck carving, painting and photography.

Mr. Plucenik was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Harrington.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Plucenik was preceded in death by his wife, Doris H. Plucenik in 1998.

He is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Mark E. and Susan Plucenik of Dover, Paul J. Plucenik and his girlfriend, Judy Gsell of Dover and Robert and Michelle Plucenik of Brooklyn, Conn.; two grandchildren, Alex Plucenik and Andre"a Plucenik; and a special companion, his dog Babe.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday in St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 109 Dixon St., Harrington.

Burial will be held in the Milford Community Cemetery, Milford.

Instead of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to DLSM Homeless Animal Fund, c/o Felton Bank, Attn: Dee Andres, 698A North DuPont Hwy, Milford, DE 19963; or St. John"s Catholic Church, Building Fund, 506 Seabury Avenue, Milford, DE, 19963.
