LEWES - Edward E. Wedler, of Lewes, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, April 3, 2008. He was 71.
He was born in Washington, D.C., to the late Lester and Ulda (Sanberg) Wedler.
Edward was a retired elevator constructor with the local union 10, I.E.C.U., Washington, D.C.
He served in the U.S. Army and was a proud member of Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540, Lewes Moose Lodge 646 and the Sons of the American Legion Post 28 of Oak Orchard. He was also a member of AMVETS of Long Neck.
He enjoyed boating, fishing, clamming, going to the casinos and betting horses.
Edward was a kindhearted and giving soul and will be sadly missed by his many great friends.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his nephew, Bill Bailey, of Odenton, Md.
He is survived by his siblings, David Wedler of Langley Park, Md., and Linda Wedler and Pattie Wedler, both of Honolulu; and five nieces and nephews, Richard Bailey of Silver Spring, Md., Kay Rosnick of Clearwater, Fla., Paul Bailey of Berwyn Heights, Md., Lynn Bailey of Crofton, Md., and Elmer Bailey of Mount Airy, Md. He is also survived by his long time friend and companion, Helen M. Safford.
Services will be held privately at a later date.
The family suggests contributions in Edward's memory to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963; or Tunnell Cancer Center of Beebe, 18941 John J. Williams Highway, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
Arrangements by Melson Funeral Services of Long Neck.
