INGLESIDE, Md. - Duncan Gray Butler of Ingleside died Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, in his home. He was 74.
Mr. Butler was born May 28, 1932, in Caroline County, son of the late Edward and Beatrice MacDonald Butler.
On Oct. 13, 1951, he married Joyce Plugge of Cordova with whom he shared 48 years until her death July 18, 1998.
In 1955, they moved to Barclay where he lived and farmed his entire life.
Mr. Butler enjoyed hunting, farming, dancing at the Veterans of Foreign Wars and playing shuffleboard with the Caroline County Shuffleboard League.
He was a member of the Queen Anne's County Farm Bureau, Sudlersville Lions Club, Auxiliary of Sudlersville Volunteer Fire Co. where he was a life member, and a supporter of Queen Anne's County 4-H.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Butler Ross.
He is survived by his second wife of one year, Mary Larrimore Butler; a brother, Hall Barton Butler of Easton; a son, Duncan Butler Jr. and Bonnie Clough of Barclay; a daughter: Joyce Ann Butler Morris and her husband, Thomas of Centreville; two grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Butler Martin and her husband, Christopher Martin of Goldsboro and Duncan G. Butler III and his girlfriend, Lori O'Connell of Barclay; and a very special great-grandson, Christopher "C.J." Martin Jr.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at in Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
Burial will follow in Sudlersville Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Billy Hollingsworth, Dougie Larrimore, David Melvin, Bucky Simpson, Gary Hollingsworth, Charles 'Chip' Merrick IV, Duncan Butler III and Chris Martin.
Honorary pallbearers are Ernie Myers, Gordon Myers, Bill Lynch, and Palmer Council.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Sudlersville Volunteer Fire Co., P.O. Box 61, Sudlersville, MD 21668.
