Dorothy V. Thornton, 87

HARTLY - Dorothy V. Thornton, of Hartly, died Feb. 21, 2009, at home. She was 87. Mrs. Thornton was born June 23, 1921, in Wilmington, to the late George L. Veazey and Dora Wahl Veazey. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Thornton was a member of the Mamie Warren Senior Center. She was a past member of the American Legion Walter L. Fox Post 2 Ladies Auxiliary and RSVP and St. Peters Episcopal in Smyrna. She had previously volunteered at the Delaware Council of Senior Citizens. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George T. Thornton Sr. on March 9, 1994. She is survived by her three sons, Edward A. Thornton of Camerilo, Calif., George T. Thornton Jr. of Felton, and David R. Thornton of Hartly; daughter, Dorothea A. Borkowski of Perth Amboy, N.J.; brother, George R. Veazey of Wilmington; sister, Eleanor Hoffman of Hockessin; five grandchildren, and seven great- grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, at St. Peters Episcopal Church, 22 N. Union Street, Smyrna, where friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover. Mrs. Thornton had requested that there be no flowers at her service. Local arrangements by Torbert Funeral Chapels, Dover.
