Dorothy Mae Vaughan

DOVER - Dorothy Mae Vaughan, daughter of the late Charlie and Willie Vanghan, was born Aug. 15, 1934 in Boykins, Va. She departed this life May 23, 2018.
Dorothy received her early education in Virginia. She married Thomas Vaughan on June 22, 1958. To this union a daughter, Juanita Vaughan was born. After obtaining a job and establishing a home, Thomas moved his family to Delaware.
Dorothy was a housewife and became a foster mother to many children over the years. She loved to cook, sew, watch game shows and work puzzles. She also loved to sing and praise God.
Dorothy was a member of Serenity Church of God, Inc. in Dover. Her favorite songs were "Precious Lord and I'll Go" and her favorite scripture was Psalm 23.
Dorothy's legacy of love will always be remembered. Even in her sickness her loving spirit was felt by all those she came into contact with.
I addition to her parents and husband; Dorothy was predeceased by her sister, Dorothy Holt; and her brother, Johnnie Furtell.
She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Juanita Vaughan and fiance Kenneth Watson; a son, Michael T. Vaughan; six stepchildren from Virginia; four grandchildren; Johnnie T. Moore, Keith Wayman, Jr., Ka'Trese and Tyrese Pettyjohn; two great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Alice Newsome (Newport News, Va.); and nieces; foster children who have remained in her life, Leroy Perry (Qwanteisha) and children and Henry Pope.
Memorial Services will be Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Serenity Church of God, 30 Loockerman St., Dover.
