HARRINGTON - Dorothy Jeanette Wyatt of Harrington died Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at home. She was 80.

Mrs. Wyatt was born in Harrington, daughter of the late George and Dorothy (Salisbury) Downes.

At the age of 2, she moved with her family to Jersey City, N.J., until at the age of 21 she moved back to Harrington with only $1.50 in her pocket.

Mrs. Wyatt went to work at a local restaurant in town waiting tables and washing dishes until she married her husband, Joseph Elwood Wyatt. She worked hard throughout her life. She worked at L.D. Caulk in Milford for 26 years as a production worker in the metal alloy department.

She was also a devoted homemaker. She cared for her husband while he was sick from 1980 until his death in 1988. During this time she also raised three children, attending the children"s ball games and always volunteering to help in all the activities her children were involved in. During this time, she also cared for her mother, who became ill in the 1980s at the same time she was caring for her ill husband.

Mrs. Wyatt always kept her house in immaculate shape. She loved to cook, especially her specialty chicken and dumplings and macaroni and cheese. She also enjoyed watching any cooking shows that were on TV.

She was a very religious woman and always attended church, seldom missing a Sunday up until she was unable to travel due to her illness. She was a former member of the Calvary Wesleyan Church, Harrington, and was most currently an active member of Pilgrim Chapel in Harrington.

Mrs. Wyatt was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Elwood Wyatt, in 1988; and two sisters, Elizabeth Mae Hill and Helen Muth.

She is survived by three sons, George L. "Buddy" Wyatt of Milford, Joseph A. Wyatt and his wife Cindy of Bridgeville and William G. "Jerry" Wyatt and his wife Sue H. of Cambridge, Md.; two brothers, the Rev. George Downes and his wife Ruth of Bloomfield, N.J., and Dewaine Downes and his wife Edith of New Brunswick, N.J.; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Pilgrim Chapel, 4792 Milford-Harrington Highway, Harrington, where friends may call after 12 p.m. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.

Arrangements by McKnatt, Carpenter & Baker Funeral Home, Harrington.
