Dorothy E. Newhard

DOVER - Dorothy E. "Dottie" Newhard, of Dover, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011, at the Heartland Hospice House, Wilmington. She was 81. Mrs. Newhard was born in Cheswold, on Aug. 20, 1930, to the late Wilson Barber and Edith Sapp Barber. She was a waitress for many years at the Smyrna Diner and also was a line worker for the Metalcraft Company. She was a Past President of the Dover Lioness Club, loved cooking, crafts, and especially spending time with her great-grandchildren. She was a homebody. Mrs. Newhard was preceded in death by her brother, George Barber; three sisters, Beartice Barber, Grasce Barber, and Marietta Odorn; a grandson, Fanklin Stubbs II; and a great-grandson, Dylan Ailworth. She is survived by her companion, Ned Newhard; a daughter and son-in-law, Sherrie and Frank Stubbs of Frankford; a son and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Tricia Brown of Dover; a grandson she raised, Charles McGuire Jr. of Dover; grandchildren, Jenny and Greg Brown of Dover and Crystal Seneca of Seaford; a brother, Charles Barber of Elkton, Md. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren; and two step children, Ruth Ann Gares of Smyrna and Walter Brown of Smyrna; and seven step-grandchildren. A memorial service will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011, at the Torbert Funeral Chapel, South, 1145 E. Lebanon Rd., Dover, where friends may call from noon until service time. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Heartland Hospice House, 5661 Ochiltree Lane, Wilmington, DE 19808.
