Doris Robbins Waldis, 80

CAMBRIDGE, Md. - Doris Robbins Waldis, of Cambridge, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2008, at her home. She was 80.

She was born in Cambridge on June 20, 1928, and was a daughter of the late Otis and Mattie Robbins.

She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1945.

On April 20, 1948, she married William F. Waldis.

Mrs. Waldis worked as a bookkeeper at the Farmers & Merchants Bank, Cambridge, for 25 years.

As a young woman, she attended Grace United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Waldis enjoyed collecting teapots and bone dishes and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed spending time with her family as well as monthly gatherings of her high school class.

She passed away suddenly in her sleep at home.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, William F. "Bill" Waldis of Cambridge; a daughter, L. Marlene Waldis of Cambridge; a son-in-law, Glenn Elzey of Coralville, Iowa; one sister, Elsie Callison of Cambridge; a sister-in-law, Pauline Robbins of Cambridge; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Beth Elzey; two sisters, Alice Lowe and Lottie Love; and two brothers Earl Robbins and Luke Robbins.

A funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Thomas Funeral Home, Cambridge, with the Rev. Joan P. Evans officiating.

Interment will follow at the Bucktown Churchyard.

The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Immanuel United Church of Christ, 5401 Whitehall Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.

Pallbearers will be Donald L. Richardson, Vernon Hughes, Albert Phillips, Jack Waldis, Gerald Grindle and Allen Hoge.
