Doris A. Brown, 66

DOVER - Doris A. Brown of Dover departed this life on July 9, 2007, at home after a long battle with cancer and lupus. She was 66.

Doris was born Aug. 22, 1940, in Centreville, Md., to the late Arnold A. Brown Sr. and Mildred Taylor Brown.

She received her formal education in the Queen Anne"s County school system.

Doris received her high school diploma from James H. Groves Adult High, Woodside.

She received her religious beginnings early in her life at Bethel AME Church, Centreville, Md.

Doris worked various jobs throughout her life until her health forced her to retire.

Her favorites were as a bartender and working as a clerk for the Dover Police Department.

Doris loved meeting people and people loved meeting her.

She always had an encouraging word and even during her illness, she managed to be an inspiration to anyone that came in contact with her.

"Mom Doris," and "Mom Mom," as she was affectionately known by her children"s and her grandchildren"s friends always had to know what you were up to and loved the time that she spent with each and everyone of them.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold A. Brown Sr. and Mildred Taylor Brown; her son, James Martin; her granddaughter, Danielle Emory; two brothers, Donald Brown (her twin) and Arnold A. Brown Jr.; her sister, Shirley Brown Harris; and a grandson, James Thomas.

She is survived by three sons, Leonard Deedon Jr. and wife, Bertina of Centreville, Kevin Collins and wife, Veronica of Florida and Charles Thomas of Dover; two daughters, Brenda Emory and her devoted friend, Mark of Dover and Tracy Thomas of Wilmington; 16 grandchildren, Demetrius, Andre, Dana, Tracy, Tomeka, Shantel, Le"Tina, Jamie, Breanna, Miranda, Nathaniel, Tacoma, Latera, Ebony, Ryan, and Leornard III; 13 great-grandchildren, Amirah, Ja"Ayre, Sadyyhia, Alihya, Imani, Marques, Brenaisha, Janaya, Najaya, Zoviar, Taliyha, Jakira, and Tony; four sisters, Jean Cooper, Brenda Butler, Connie Brown, all of Centreville and Sylvia Johnson of Dover; two brothers, James Brown of Neptune, N.J. and George Brown of Centreville; and a host of cousins, aunt, uncles, as well as her extended grandchildren and friends.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Bethel AME Church in Centreville, where friends may call two hours prior.

Burial will be in Chesterfield Cemetery, Centreville.

Arrangements by Bennie Smith Funeral Home.
