Donald H. McClain Sr., 72

SMYRNA - Donald H. McClain Sr. of Smyrna, formerly of Newark, died peacefully in his home Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006. He was 72.

Mr. McClain was born June 8, 1934, in Erie, Pa., son of the late William and Jean Waugaman.

He spent his childhood years in Manor, Pa., with his beloved grandparents, and graduated from Jeannette (Pa.) High School.

Mr. McClain, an accomplished billiard and pinochle player, was the owner and operator of Don"s Billiards in Newark for 25 years.

Over the years, he enjoyed many hobbies, including displaying his vintage cars, collecting Hess Trucks, watching all types of sports and spending time with his neighbors. More recently, he became a member of the Modern Maturity Center in Dover, where he greatly enjoyed playing pinochle and attending dinner dances. He will be sadly missed by his family.

Mr. McClain was a longtime member of Infinity Lodge 546, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, in Verona, Pa.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a half-brother, Marvin Paul Watson.

He is survived by his wife of 3½ years, Dorothy (Keep) McClain; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Richard and Susan McClain of Downingtown, Pa., and Donald Jr. and Pat McClain of Middletown; a daughter, Renee Lloyd of Newark; a sister and a brother-in-law, Aileen and Len Edge of Newark; a brother and a sister-in-law, William and Yvette McClain of Tucson, Ariz; a half-brother and a half-sister-in-law, Rande and Joan Watson of Dunnellon, Fla.; four grandchildren, Aaron McClain, Andrew McClain, Brandi McClain and James Conner; and nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, where friends may call one hour earlier.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. Du Pont Highway, Dover, DE 19901; or to the American Diabetes Association, 100 W. 10th St., Ste. 1002, Wilmington, DE 19801.
