CLAYTON - Donald F. Potter of Clayton passed away peacefully to be with the Lord, Sunday, June 3, 2007, with his loving family by his side, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital. He was 86.
Mr. Potter was born March 5, 1921, in Butler, Tenn., son of the late Frank and Minnie Brewer Potter.
He worked as a foreman for N.V.F. in Yorklyn for 25 years before retirement and later worked as a groundskeeper at the Smyrna Rest Area.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of V.F.W. Post 5892 in Hockessin.
Mr. Potter enjoyed landscaping and doing carpentry work.
He is survived by his wife, Edith Crowe Potter; three sons, Donald Ray Potter and his wife, Sandra of Townsend, Marshall D. Potter, with whom he lived, and Robert W. Potter Sr. of Butler; three daughters, Edith Datz and her husband, Austin of Butler, Ruth Crouch and her husband, William of Elkton, Md., and Lisa Hazzlett and her fiancé Wade Christopher, both of Newark; three sisters, Irene Andrews of Elizabethton, Tenn., Kate Stanton and her husband Robert of Rogersville, Tenn., and Virdie Stanton of Mountain City, Tenn.; a brother, John Boyd Potter and his wife, Edna of New Castle; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 S. Main St., Smyrna, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
Arrangements by Faries Funeral Directors and Crematorium Inc., 29 South Main St., Smyrna.
