Dolores June (Spear) Knopf died May 26, 2014 in the arms of her husband after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was just a few short weeks away from her 80th birthday. Dolores was born June 19,1934 in Ridley Park, PA, the daughter of the late Earl Ralph Spear and Aileen Sammons Spear. She attended Media High School in Media, PA. where in her freshman year she met the love of her life, a handsome senior named Aaron O. Knopf. The two were married on November 23, 1952 shortly after Dolores's high school graduation. For the first 20 years of marriage, Dolores was a full-time homemaker and stay at home Mother to their 3 children Sherry, Larry and Sol. In 1972 she started her career as a Real Estate Agent. As one of the few women in the male dominated Real Estate world at that time, she landed her first job with McReynolds and Nace Realty on State Street in Dover, DE where Evelyn McReynolds and Polly Nace showed her the ropes. Throughout the years she became one of the most loved and admired agents in the Dover area. She ascended to the position of Vice President of the B. Gary Scott Realty firm until ultimately purchasing that Dover franchise with her husband. Because of the respect others had for her knowledge and integrity, Dolores was regularly requested by the Kent County Board of Realtors to teach classes on ethics and proper procedures. From 1992-1994 Dolores gracefully served as First Lady of Dover, DE during her husband's two year term as Mayor. The two regularly opened their home at 144 Kings Highway to friends and fundraising events. During her life Dolores donated her time to numerous local charities and was a proud member of Congregation Beth Shalom where she had the honor of serving as President of the Sisterhood. She enjoyed Mah-Jong and Tennis, and loved reading to and bragging about her grandchildren. In the late 90's the couple retired to the sunny state of Florida to enjoy their retirement.
