Delmar R. 'Pickle' Bowens, 60
SOMERSET, N.J. - Delmar R. "Pickle" Bowens, of Somerset, formerly of Dorchester County, Md., passed away of kidney failure on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008, in the Robert Wood Memorial Hospital, Somerset. He was 60.
He was the son of the late Roland and Margie Bowens.
Delmar was fondly known to family and friends as Pickle. His favorite quote was "Everybody loves a pickle."
Delmar was a person of many talents.
For many years he worked at Allen's Foods, Seaford, Del., as a jockey truck driver, and he drove tractor trailers over the road for several years.
After retiring from the trucking industry, Delmar embarked on his favorite past time, being a chef. Prior to his disability, he enjoyed being a chef within the restaurant industry.
Delmar will be remembered for attending school in his earlier years within the Dorchester County school system.
Those who were in school with him, as well as those who were around him from day to day, will be able to attest to the fact that Pickle loved life.
He enjoyed cooking and he really could cook. He also enjoyed dancing and more than anything, he liked to tease his sisters and tell jokes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Anthony Butler; a brother, Levin Bowens; and a dear, devoted friend, Sophie Molock.
Delmar will be greatly missed by one son, Delmar Jr. of Michigan; three daughters, Vonda of Baltimore and Virginia and Delmelina, both of Michigan; seven grandchildren; and four sisters, Thelma Aldridge of Preston, Md., Doretta Bowens of Hurlock, Md., Barbara Washington of Cambridge, Md., and Gwendolyn and his wife James Bryant of East New Market, Md.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Wallace Temple Church of Rhodesdale, Md., where friends may call two hours prior.
Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Arrangements by Deborah E. Harris-Nock Funeral Services, Greenwood.
