MAGNOLIA - Debra Lee Waters of Magnolia departed this life Friday, June 1, 2012 in Bayhealth Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 52. Debra was born August 1, 1959 in Whaleyville, Maryland to Margaret Waters and the late Leon Purnell. She worked at Bayhealth Kent General as a Certified Nursing Assistant for about 16 years. Debra affectionately known as Debbie or Mommom, never met a stranger that she couldn't talk to. Debbie was caring, compassionate, and loved everyone that came across her path unconditionally. She loved to talk and would strike up a conversation with anyone about her family, especially her grandchildren. Debbie enjoyed shopping, vacationing, and spending time with her family. Debbie was a foster mother to many children, who she mothered just as her own. In 2004 after beating breast cancer, Debbie founded "Celebration of Life." It was Debbie's mission to teach people there was life after cancer. This event touched many lives and was looked forward to every year by many. Known for her sacrificial giving Debbie could be found financially supporting families, churches, shelters and any organizations that she knew of. Debbie was well known for her transportation and daycare business. Debbie was an ordained Elder at Canaan Full Gospel Christian Church and enjoyed doing her work as an Elder. During Debbie's battle she never once complained or asked "Why me?" When asked how she was today she would always smile and say fine or I'm fairly middling.
