HARRINGTON - David R. Dawson died of melanoma cancer at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, on Monday, Oct. 23, 2017. He leaves his wife, Sharon Rothermel Dawson of Harrington; one son, Chris S. Dawson; and one granddaughter, Morgan Marie Dawson; two brothers, Don Dawson and his wife Patricia, and Fred Dawson and his wife Louise; several nieces and nephews; one very special niece, Dawn Dawson McCloskey, whom he helped raise for several years; stepchildren, Paula Jenkins, Carrie Shockley, Lori Shockley-Tomaszewski, and her husband Eliot, Michael Shockley Jr.; and eight step grandchildren; also he had a special relationship with Sharon's stepchildren and their families. Dave was the son of the late James Murray and Marguerite June Dawson. Dave was a friend to all and built relationships with so many throughout his life. Gone, but never forgotten. Dave was born in Toronto, Canada and he and his family moved to Detroit, Mich. in 1949, then to Newark in 1952. He served in the Delaware National Guard from 1963-1969. He worked for Chrysler Corp. for 43 years until retirement in 2007. Dave worked in production for 12 years then transferred to Skilled Trades, Vehicle Maintenance, and was involved in UAW Union politics. He was a member of the Mason's since 1982, and belonged to Wilmington, Middletown, and now Milford Lodges. David was also a member of the Milford Lions Club for the past two years and a member of Avenue United Methodist Church in Milford. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, and riding his Harley across the country to almost every state in the U.S., except four. He also enjoyed working on cars, mowers, and other equipment for over forty years. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017 at 3 p.m. at Avenue United Methodist Church, 20 N. Church St., Milford, DE 19963, where friends may call after 1 p.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in David's memory can be made to: Avenue UMC, 20 N.
