TOWNSEND - David James Tharp passed away suddenly on April 27, 2021 at Christiana Hospital. David was born March 2, 1947 in Wilmington, the son of Samuel and Bessie Tharp.
David was a retired auto mechanic who worked for the State of Delaware and NAPA Auto Parts. He is a graduate of Gunning Bedford High School where he played football. David enjoyed hunting, working on small motors, travel, gardening and antiquing. After retirement David enjoyed life to the fullest.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores; his grandson, Tony; a brother, Michael; and two sisters, Sharon and Helen.
He is survived by his daughters, Pamela (Karl) Wills and Jennifer (Aaron) DeAngelis; his son, Richard (Kelly) Tharp; his grandchildren, Aaron, Cody, Trey and Reagan; great grandchildren, Dakota, Tyler and Dracilla; siblings, Sammy, Catherine and Bonnie (George); extended family and friends.
Memorial Gathering Wednesday, May 5, 2021, 5 p.m. until time of memorial 7 p.m. at Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming, Del. The family is limited to 50 guests at one time, social distancing and masks are required.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
