GREENSBORO, Md. - Darryl B. Jopp, Sr., passed away on Mar. 9, 2017, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
Darryl was born on Jun. 6, 1946, in Greensboro, Md., to the late George H. and Mary E. Jopp of Greensboro, Md.
After graduating from North Caroline High School, he attended Goldey Beacom College. He served in the Maryland National Guard for six years. His desire to help his local community let him to serve on the Greensboro Volunteer Fire Company first as a member and later as treasurer, secretary and president. This service sparked a strong interest in first aid leading Darryl to become an American Red Cross First Aid Instructor and then a volunteer EMT in Maryland with the ambulance crew of the Greensboro Volunteer Fire Company, where he assisted on over 500 ambulance calls. Darryl enjoyed good times with his family and friends camping in Chincoteague, Va., and crabbing and fishing whenever possible. As an avid boater, he immensely enjoyed being on the water and served several positions with the Choptank River Yacht Club. After retiring as a plant manager for U.S. Cold Storage in Milford in 2000, Darryl pursued some of his personal hobbies of model trains, woodworking and collecting pen knives and steam engines. After the loss of his first wife of 40 years, Beverly Simpson Jopp in 2006, he eventually met and married Joyce Ennis, of Milford; the two of them spent a great deal of time traveling, especially attending flea markets, amusement parks and shopping and relaxing together. Darryl had been a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, and later attended the Milford Church of the Nazarene and the New Life Baptist Church in Milford.
Darryl will be forever missed by family, friends and all who knew him; he is survived by his devoted wife and caregiver who loved him very much, Joyce Ennis Jopp; son, D. Bennett Jopp, Jr. and companion, Nan Brown; and daughter, Chelsea Brown, of Harrington; daughter, Amy J. Woodward, of Harrington; step-children, Randy Ennis (Faith), Curtis Ennis, Brian Ennis (Karin); and grandchildren, Zachary Bennett Jopp, Mallary Ann Jopp, Nathan Bennett Jopp and Emily Woodward; as well as a predeceased grandchild, Baby Jean Woodward; and step-grandchildren, Colin Ennis (Jessica), Andrea Ennis, B.J. Ennis, Jessica Ennis, Jenna Ennis; and his feline companion, Bangor. He is also survived by brother, Randy K. Jopp and his wife, Suzanne, of Greensboro, Md.
