EDGEMONT, Ark. – Retired U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sergeant Daniel Turner Towery, formerly of Dover, passed away Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015. Born Nov. 23, 1920 in Shirley, Ark., he was the son of the late Blake Towery. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps Dec. 8, 1941, serving with the 391st Bomb Group as a B-26 flight engineer on 35 missions. He later served as a flight engineer on C-124s at Dover Air Force Base, retiring in 1964. He received the French Legion of Honor in 2013 for his WWII service. He also operated Towery Aircraft Services at Delaware Airpark in Cheswold. He was predeceased by his first wife, Bertha "Bea" L. Towery, in 1985; and his son-in-law, Jeffrey Brasfield, in 2015. Mr. Towery is survived by his wife, Lueda Mejos Towery of Edgemont; children, John W. Towery of Cheswold, Daniel Turner Towery II and wife Joanna C. Wilson of Dover, Glenn A. Towery of Dover, Nancy E. Towery of Phoenix, Ariz., and Karen S. Brasfield of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Katy L. Towery and Daniel T. Towery III, both of Dover, Megan Brasfield and Blake Brasfield of San Antonio, and Sarah Blades of Los Angeles; and great-grandchildren, Jared Towery, Carissa Towery, Alexis Towery and Brooke Towery, all of Dover.
