DOVER - After a long, but courageous fight with Friedreich's Ataxia, Danny Galentine passed away at Seasons Hospice in the Christiana Hospital on January 18, 2014. His mother was at his side. He was 49 and definitely had "fought the good fight." He was very proud of his Human Services degree which he received from Del Tech at the Terry Campus in May, 1994. Danny also enjoyed part-time tutoring at Del Tech to help those who needed his services. Danny was preceded in death by his loving father, Austin Ned Galentine in 2012. He is survived by his mother, JoAnne Galentine of Dover; a devoted sister, Peni Warren and her husband; his brother-in-law, Mel Warren; and two beloved nephews, Chase and Cameron Warren. Danny loved to fish off Bowers Beach when he could. He also was an avid fan of the music of Jimi Hendrix, the Grateful Dead, and Neil Young. He had an extensive collection of their music which gave him much peace and comfort. In earlier days he was able to attend many Grateful Dead concerts. He was a fan of the Green Bay Packers, and enjoyed watching wildlife. He took great pride in his tattoos, especially the ones done by his good friend and accomplished artist, John Minka. A "Celebration of Danny's Life" will be held on at 12 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014 at the Outlook in the Duncan Center, 500 West Loockerman St., Dover. Dress code will be casual. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Governor Bacon Center for the great care given to Dan while he was a patient there for over five years. A special thanks to those who were able to visit him during his stay at Seasons Hospice. We would like to send a very special thank you to Seasons Hospice for their great help in every way during the past year. Arrangements are being handled by Torbert Funeral Home, Dover. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, Danny requested contributions to Delaware ASPCA, 455 Stanton Christiana Rd., Newark, DE 19713.
