DOVER - Danette M. Briggs passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Kent General Hospital.
Mrs. Briggs was born February 21, 1944 in Kingstree, South Carolina, the only child of the late Daniel J. Mims and Mary L. Richburg Mims.
While earning a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Winthrop College in Rock Hill, SC, she discovered her love of teaching pre-school age children. She subsequently spent several happy years teaching at the Wesley United Methodist Church Pre-school and Kindergarten in Dover and Department of Defense schools in Germany.
She enjoyed music, traveling and living abroad, children's literature, collecting cookbooks and caring for the family cats. Mrs. Briggs was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Dover and sang in the choir for many years.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Lyle K. Briggs of Dover; children, Paula Piccoli and her husband Robert of Madison, WI and Daniel Briggs of West Chester, PA, and grandchildren, Matthew Piccoli of Madison, WI and Zoe and Madeline Briggs of West Chester, PA.
Interment will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
Memorial services will be 12 Noon, Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call one hour prior.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, 209 S. State St., Dover DE 19901 or the Alzheimers Association at https://act.alz.org/
